FOREVER MINE

TITLE: FOREVER MINE
AUTHOR:ELIZABETH REYES
SERIES: MORENO BROTHERS #1
RATING:★★★

SUMMARY:

Seventeen-year old Sarah’s life is turned upside down when her single mom is sent to jail. She’s forced to move, leaving behind everything she’s ever known, including her best friend Sydney. Lost and bitter in a new school, her one goal is to save money and move back home. Then she meets Angel Moreno. Enigmatic but gorgeous, Angel is almost too good to be true. Except for one thing, his archaic belief that guys and girls can never be “just friends”. The problem? Sarah’s best friend Sydney is not a girl. With their unexpected romance intensifying to places neither ever experienced, how long can Sarah keep Angel in the dark about the guy waiting for her back home?

REVIEW:

FOREVER MINE - Cheesy title right...so i dont even know from where to start because this book has a hell lot of wonderful characters, but our main characters are Sarah and Angel.
Oh Angel i gushed over him the whole time.

Sarah is seventeen year old and her childhood has mostly been on the move until she finally settled with her mom in Arizona, but this is not the main issue here the reason why Sarah feels her world fall apart is because her mom has been sent to prison for embezzlement for three long years due to which she was forced to go and live with her aunt and step- cousin ,Valerie, in La Jolla California which meant she got seperated from her only best friend Sydney. She was certain that she would return to Arizona as soon as she turns eighteen so that she could finish off high school with Sydney.

First day of school is when she meets ANGEL...and BOOM ..blown out by the description given about his personality and looks but the BOOMish moment was when you felt that *insta-love * aspect. Its like they layed eyes on each other and sparks flew and personally i am no insta-love fan so i found it funny and unrealistic on my part.

Then finally Sarah and Angel got together. I was really doubtful at a point if Angel was serious or was just bluffing with Sarah but he was definitely very serious , but they were great together and couldn't keep their hands off each other especially Angel. But it was nothing extreme.

Angel was so enigmatic and baffling i loved him, he was really a strong character.

Yes he was protective .. OK very protective but not in a bad way. He had girls ogling over him all the time but he only cared for Sarah..i know AWWWW right.
Angel was really protective about Sarah he didn't want any guy being inappropriate with his girl, not even if it is Sarah's coach of the school team.. BTW he was a douche bag and he payed for it.
His protective trait was nice i feel some people may not like it but i kind of embrace that kind of protectiveness but only till a certain level.

The problems start when Sarah hides the fact that her best fren Sydney is a guy. Naturally by the name Angel figured Sydney was a girl and Sarah didn't correct because she knew how protective Angel was and she didnt want to cause a scene or trouble. Finally she decides to tell Angel and stop running from telling him the truth.(Ok i am not giving any spoilers..go read it.)
This was really the only flaw that stood out in her character.

The other characters were great as well. We get to meet their family and friends too.

Valerie , Sarah's cousin was very spunky and cool and no strings attached kind of girl but then there was something cooking between her and Angel's brother - Alex. Alex was a great guy too and of course he was a MORENO so he had the looks too. He was really a funny guy and i cant wait to read the next book in the series which is about Alex and Valerie.
Sophie was their little sister and all the brothers were overly protective about their little sis which got into her nerves.
Eric, Sal and Romero were great too..

All together the book was good not that i loveeeddd it but yes i did like it a lot.

♥♥♥

“What?” Eric shook his head. “Angel Moreno is into talking to chicks now? When did you turn into a total wuss?"

Angel shrugged, and took another bite of his food.

He avoided looking at Eric; suddenly not sure he wanted to talk about it. “I don’t know, dude, she’s just cool to hang with, I guess.”

Eric nodded, as if he got it. “So, you’re not into her? I thought she was pretty hot.”

“I’m into her, you ass, just ‘cause I didn’t bone her the first night. Not all girls are like that, you know.”

Eric grinned. “So, you did get shot down.”

Anna and the French Kiss

TITLE : ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS
AUTHOR: STEPHANIE PERKINS
SERIES: STANDALONE
RATING: ★★★

SUMMARY :
Anna is looking forward to her senior year in Atlanta, where she has a great job, a loyal best friend, and a crush on the verge of becoming more. Which is why she is less than thrilled about being shipped off to boarding school in Paris--until she meets Étienne St. Clair. Smart, charming, beautiful, Étienne has it all...including a serious girlfriend.

But in the City of Light, wishes have a way of coming true. Will a year of romantic near-misses end with their long-awaited French kiss?

REVIEW:

Bonjour everyone...hmm so you must be wondering why am i suddenly talking in French well this lovely book is set in the City of love Paris.
By the summary itself you must be thinking that you have figured a well enough zest of the book but honestly this book has lot more to offer.

I was in a month long reading slump from which i needed to recover so i went on and read this very hyped book and YES i finished it in a day...that's how much i loved the book. I know i should have read this book long back but i wasn't so interested having heard about a Cheating boyfriend as one of the main character.
And i don't root for cheaters...so i put that book away from my reading list but i finally decided to read it and trust me when i say this book is swoon worthy..its just an adorable read.

So our main characters are :

1.Anna Oliphant
2. Étienne St. Clair

(And this are their friends..)
3. Bridgette Sanderwick
4. Ellie
5. Meredith
6. Rashmi
7. Josh

Anna is our main and title character of the book. Anna as described in the summary is sent to Paris to study for her final year leaving behind her best friend Bridgette and also a possible love interest Christopher whom she nicknamed Toph
Her father a best selling author decided to sent her to SOAP- School Of America in Paris.
Anna detested going to Paris because she had to not only leave everyone in Atlanta but also she didn't understand or nor speak French. I loved Anna for the most parts, she was funny and was a great friend.

Anna manages to be friends with Meredith and eventually with Josh , Rashmi and the  Étienne St. Clair in SOAP who all happen to hang out together and Josh and Rashmi were in a relationship.

So Étienne St. Clair or St. Clair as he is called is Anna's main love interest .
He was born in United States and bought up in England and so he had a British accent which was apparently very sexy and he has a charm of his own and he could sweep girls off their feet and his hair did get a lot of attention which totally reminded me of Edward and his hair issues and the love everyone had for his hair ( cheesy )
He had a serious relationship with Ellie who studied in Parsons.

Anna being no exception falls in love with this beautiful man St. Clair only to go through a hell long of a roller coaster ride. St. clair had a girlfriend and Anna loved him and so did Meredith ..oh yess, and that was not enough when she goes home she find's her best friend back  in Atlanta to be going out with Toph.

There was a lot tension between Anna and St. Clair and lot of love dramas. I was gushing and also cursing St. Clair a lot of time to be a man and just get up and tell her when he clearly loved her too. I cursed him a lot because he was just stringing Anna along without dumping his girlfriend he was cheating his girlfriend and that was a major flaw in his character.

The other characters of the book i.e. their friends and parents.
All of the friend were very supportive and nice and even though later Anna forgives Bridgette i would never have been able to forgive her personally.
Anna's parents were very well and good if compared to St. Clair's father who was just psychic i feel.

The setting of the book was just staggering and i loved it every inch of it.

The humor was fantastic too. Anna and the things she experienced due to language issue was funny. She would be embarrassed to order for food because she didn't know how to talk in French and she avoided having to order food for at least 5 days which was hilarious. But i can totally relate to Anna in this case ..having been shifted from my native place at first i too faced a lot of language issues.
Seriously i was pretty annoyed after reading her resentment for going to Paris because Paris personally is my most most loved place and i love everything about France...and i would love to visit there someday . If you ask me what i know and love about Paris i just love the different ancient landmarks, the Cathedral and Moulin Rouge and the food (*hungry*) and yes EIFFEL TOWER and the Paris Fashion Week

The ending couldn't have been any better. It was SPOT ON.
The story is pretty predictable i kind of knew what the end will be like but still the way Stephanie Perkins wrote the book was Great and even though it was predictable she bought bits and pieces at the right time for that extra kick and punch to the storyline.
The whole time i was reading this book it brought a dopey smile on my face and my heart just fluttered ...it just gave me the Feels.
If you are looking for an easy summer read do pick this up its AWESOME.

♥♥♥

' 2 STATES'- THE BOOK AND FILM REVIEW

TITLE:  2 STATES
AUTHOR: CHETAN BHAGAT
SERIES: STANDALONE
RATING: ★★★

SUMMARY:

Love marriages around the world are simple:
Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy.
They get married.
In India, there are a few more steps:
Boy loves Girl. Girl loves Boy.
Girl’s family has to love boy. Boy’s family has to love girl.
Girl’s Family has to love Boy’s Family. Boy’s family has to love girl’s family.
Girl and Boy still love each other. They get married.
Welcome to 2 States, a story about Krish and Ananya. They are from two different states of India, deeply in love and want to get married. Of course, their parents don’t agree. To convert their love story into a love marriage, the couple have a tough battle in front of them. For it is easy to fight and rebel, but it is much harder to convince. Will they make it?

REVIEW:
The movie is out, so what better time to review both the movie and the book together.
So basically ‘2 State’ is astounding journey from the Mess to the Buffet dinner..errr excuse my bad sense of humor but jokes apart it is the story of Ananya and Krish. Both of them are from two different states, Ananya from Chennai and Krish from Delhi.

This may trigger CHENNAI EXPRESS film script to you with the north Indian boy and tamilian girl, but trust me its nothing like that and moreover ‘2 states book ‘was published long back even before Chennai express released.

We have two main characters and their respective parents.
1. Krish- a very studious, brilliant and cool Punjabi guy
2. Ananya – a spunky , big- mouthed Tamilian girl

Krish meets Ananya for the first time in IIM  mess where Ananya was busy fighting over the unhygienic food and he was instantly awestricken by this gorgeous lady and then the predictable happens – friendship then love.

They fall in love and that’s not the end but the beginning of a bigger journey- the journey to their marriage.

The first phase is when they have lot of fun and love and sparks fly until of course their parents meet each other at the convocation day and YES that day sparks do fly but sparks of love? Among Tamilian’s and Punjabi parents…hmm (read the book and you’d know) no offense but the humor is just fantastic.

This is when the second phase of the story comes, where Krish (spoiler alert) takes a job placement in Chennai to convince his Tamilian in-laws for their marriage.

Then the third phase where Ananya goes to Delhi to convince her in-laws for their marriage and all this was not enough that now even both of their parents must approve each other and decide to meet.

The last phase is marriage after all.

Their journey had lots of ups and downs but their patience is commendable and its really so nice to read a book where parents are given an equal importance because their approval and blessings are so important and always will be important.

Also we come to know about two different cultures and their habits and nature. As for me I was born in Chennai but I know only one word..ILLE (btw did I spell it correct)

India being a country where there exist so many cultures and religions still face cases where cross culture marriages are not allowed and prohibited. As it is said in the book that when we are accepting a family of different culture we are adding more value to our existing ones.

I think diversity is so important and it really opens up your mind and stops it from being narrow minded. I am a Bengali born in Chennai and brought up in Nagaland and currently living in Kolkata and my dad is Bengali and mum Punjabi and even though their cultures are so different from each other I get to enjoy both of them I can eat and enjoy rice and fish and also parantha and butter chicken.

We are Indians first and of course culture is so important we should all be rooted to it but it should not be the basis of discrimination.

I really loved the social issue brought up by this book and the love between Krish and Ananya was good too but nothing so special that I haven’t seen in Bollywood films or read about.

♥♥♥
“Sometimes in your life you just meet someone or hear something that nudges you on the right path. And that becomes the best advice. It could just be a bit of commonsense said in a way that resonates with something in you. It's nothing new, but because it connects with you it holds meaning for you.”

'2 STATES'- THE MOVIE

PRODUCER: Karan Johar and Sajid Nadiadwala
CAST-

 Courtesy : Wikipedia

The movie was average for me. I expected more from the film since the story had a typical Bollywood masala film theme.

Those of who didn’t read the book would love it but for me I liked the book better .
Those of you who want to read the book , i have given a link below and there is a nice offer going on so do check it out.

The songs were not up to the mark the composers being Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy, the music should have been better.

The film had some changes of course like the P.C.O was omitted and mobiles were used. But I think the film could have had more changes like there was no need to show the story in flash backs it seemed forced and there was no need of it.

Most of the dialogue were just taken out of the book and on to the film there was no extra effort for some added dialogues or scenes which made the the movie really slow paced.

Alia Bhat and Arjun Kapoor acted well which made up for some of the flaws. Their pair looks wonderful and very natural on screen.
It is a one time watch enjoyable but could have been better.

SHATTER ME- TAHEREH MAFI

TITLE: SHATTER ME
AUTHOR: TAHEREH MAFI
SERIES:  SHATTER ME #1
RATING: ★★★★

SUMMARY:

Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days.

The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color.

The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war – and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Juliette is more than a tortured soul stuffed into a poisonous body. Maybe she’s exactly what they need right now.

Juliette has to make a choice: Be a weapon. Or be a warrior.

REVIEW:

Do you guys love X-MEN? I am asking this because this dystopian book just turned out to be somewhat like the x-men...With all those powers, and how to control them and the same old…SAVE THE WORLD.
I have mixed opinions about this book. I don’t hate it neither do I love it…its somewhere in the middle.

So the story starts with our world in future getting shattered with people dying and the population of earth declining due to diseases, lack of food , and the change of the atmospheric condition..Where the ozone layer is deteriorating and the clouds seem to be of a different color.

Our female protagonist Juliette is locked up in a prison for the last 264 days. It is because she has a lethal and toxic touch, a touch that can kill people. So she is locked up because she did kill a person by mistake. Locked up in prison, she gets a new cellmate Adam. Who happens to be her childhood acquaintance.

The Reestablishment are the people who are in charge of this whole new world and they promise to bring humanity from the edge of starvation and downfall. But the problem arises when you know that they lock up Juliette not for the safety of people but instead to torture others with Juliette as a weapon.
The writing was really interesting. I liked how the author made the use of strike out words; it was refreshing to read something like that. We come to know what’s inside Juliette’s head and that make this whole experience of reading really personal and real because we even know what is going on in her subconscious mind. One thing I didn’t like about the writing is the use of unnecessary lines and metaphors some of which are baseless and I didn't even understand what they mean.

His gaze is fixed on me: calm, unflappable; 2 buckets of river water at midnight.  I’d like to cry into his eyes.”

Hate looks just like everybody else until it smiles.  Until it spins around and lies with lips and teeth carved into the semblance of something too passive to punch.”

There are so many more lines like that.( understand what i mean)

The characters of the book:

Juliette: she is the main female lead protagonist. she is troubled ..yes I mean lock me up in a cell for 264 days ..And I would be more troubled then her.
She is not like troubled in the sense that she has a mental problem or something, she just thinks that she is monster that she should just be killed and there is nothing good about her. And she thinks all these not only because she is locked up in prison but also because she never was close to humanity, she didn't have friends, her parents sent her away...She never touched anyone and when she did it killed him. Still she comes across as someone very patient and brave.

Adam: Adam is the sweet guy. At the beginning I felt he was the bad one but he had reasons to behave that way… ok NO SPOILERS. OK so there is a bit of insta-love aspect but not really because Adam and Juliette have known each other from a long time, even though they did not talk. He is caring, sweet but somehow I am not so into him as a character he seems too predictable, and too perfect.

Warner: This guy was my favorite character of the book. Warner is the son of the leader of the reestablishment. He is creepy and there is very suspense element that I get every time I read about him. His comments and conversations are really fun and twisted and not cliché and this made me like him as a character more and I wanted to learn more of him and his past.
He is very obsessed with Juliette; at times I am confused if he likes her or her power.

I seriously like..SERIOUSLY…Want to see how his relationship with Juliette turns out to be.
There is a great deal of romance and also a love triangle, which I think would be further more developed in the second book…so for all the dystopian fans who liked action more than romance …WARNING.. this book has a lot of romance, it has equal share of action but I think that the story line is more inclined to romance and so is our female lead…

It was a good book and I loved how Juliette as a character grew and she finally understood that she has a gift and not a curse and she left behind her insecurities and began to think that she is not a monster and that she deserves friends, love and human connections.

Everything was good until the ending…when I got the whole deal of X-MEN zest to it..i seriously hope the sequel doesn’t turn out to be in some super hero format..

Overall it was a good read, I would definitely check out the sequel because I am pretty curious as to what happens next…..

♥♥♥

“I spent my life folded between the pages of books.
In the absence of human relationships I formed bonds with paper characters. I lived love and loss through stories threaded in history; I experienced adolescence by association. My world is one interwoven web of words, stringing limb to limb, bone to sinew, thoughts and images all together. I am a being comprised of letters, a character created by sentences, a figment of imagination formed through fiction.”

CLOCKWORK ANGEL- CASSANDRA CLARE

TITLE: CLOCKWORK ANGEL
AUTHOR: CASSANDRA CLARE
SERIES: INFERNAL DEVICES- BOOK 1
PUBLISHER: WALKER BOOKS
RATING:

Summary:

MAGIC IS DANGEROUS- BUT LOVE IS DANGEROUS STILL

When sixteen-year-old Tessa gray arrives in England during the reign of Queen Victoria, something terrifying is waiting for her in London’s Downworld, where vampires, warlocks and other supernatural folk stalk the gas lit streets. Friendless and hunted, Tessa seeks refuge with the Shadowhunters, a band of warriors dedicated to ridding the world of demons. Drawn even deeper into their world, she finds herself fascinated by – and torn between – two best friends and quickly realizes that love may be the most dangerous magic of all.

REVIEW:

The story takes places in 1870s during Victorian times.  I was pretty hesitant to read this book since I prefer futuristic books or dystopian more to the books which takes place in the past. But surprise...Surprise I liked this book a lot. It is a steam punk novel, for those of you who don’t know what a steam punk novel is, it is basically the stories which takes place in the past but have high expertise and technology which is very ahead of its time, which I thought was wonderful to read about.

Tessa gray who is our female lead protagonist leaves New York to go to live with her brother in London. Upon her arrival she is greeted not by her brother but the DARK SISTERS, they take hostage of her and she is trained to use her ability, which she did not even know she possessed. The ability to shape shift.  Oh..Yes this girl here has the knack to SHAPE SHIFT, pretty cool isn't it. So the dark sisters train her to deliver her to the Magister who wants to use her ability for reason unknown, though presumably for evil reasons.

But Tessa is rescued by a group of shadow hunters, all shadow hunters descended from an archangel Raziel; they are warriors who are devoted to fight the demons and the evil  to maintain tranquility and stability. She finds herself taking refuge with the shadow hunters at their residence which is the London institute. Meanwhile she searches for her missing brother and lives with the shadow hunters and she grows close to two of the shadow hunters of her age i.e. Will and Jem.

Yeah and there starts a beautiful, heartwarming love triangle with romance that make you flutter and all wound-up.

The characters of the book are quite amazing, even the secondary characters have a different story of them going on which is a plus. I really cared a lot about the characters, I couldn’t connect that well with the characters because It was written in 3rd person narrative and I prefer 1st person narrative more.

Tessa is portrayed as a strong witty and smart character and really mature. There are some instances where I found her rather annoying but rest of the time she was ok. She is not the strongest female lead that I have read about but she is smart she uses her ability and her brain very nicely (read the book and you’ll know why I am saying this.)

Will: He is sarcastic. Like whenever he opens his mouth he is mostly spitting out sarcastic and mocking comments. But he is very playful, good-humored and mischievous, but I loved his bad boy charms..(M OBSESSED WITH FICTIONAL BAD BOYS) As a male lead he was very fun to read about and he is amusing.

Jem: He is the type of guy most women want…All sugary and charming and equally lovable and a perfect Gentlemen.  OOOOOOO…..

The story was really engaging, the first 100 pages or so was slow paced but trust me guys...You won’t keep that book down after that. The twist and small surprises were wonderful.
I loved the world building, it had so much of history and it was fun to read it. Its pure fiction.

We have other supernatural creatures like:

Faeries - who are half demon and half angel, and have great beauty and evil nature.

Werewolves and vampires- they are humans infected with demon disease

Warlocks -who are direct offspring of humans and demons.

It was a fun read….

Beautiful disaster- Jamie McGuire

Title: beautiful disaster
Author: Jamie McGuire
Genre: Adult, Contemporary
Publisher:  Simon & Schuster
Rating: ❤❤❤❤

Summary:
INTENSE. DANGEROUS. ADDICTIVE.

Abby Abernathy is a good girl. She doesn’t drink or swear, and she has the appropriate number of cardigans in her wardrobe. Abby believes she has enough distance from the darkness of her past, but when she arrives at college with her best friend, her path to a new beginning is quickly challenged by Eastern University’s Walking One-Night Stand.

Travis Maddox, lean, cut, and covered in tattoos, is exactly what Abby wants—and needs—to avoid. He spends his nights winning money in a floating fight ring, and his days as the ultimate college campus charmer. Intrigued by Abby’s resistance to his appeal, Travis tricks her into his daily life with a simple bet. If he loses, he must remain abstinent for a month. If Abby loses, she must live in Travis’s apartment for the same amount of time. Either way, Travis has no idea that he has met his match

Review:

Phoof… this book was intense. I read this book within four hours in a stretch, like some crazy madcap.
Beautiful disaster is basically a book about Abby’s and Travis relationship when everything tries to pull them apart, Abby’s dark past and Travis with his huge temper and possessiveness.

Ok so the book starts with Abby and her best friend visiting a fight club where she stumbles upon Travis Maddox who is a fighter and fights in fight clubs. Travis calls her by the name PIGEON …(yeah odd name right). The book is about Abby and travis relationship and its written from Abby’s point of view , and I really like books written in first person narrative, I feel more connected to the characters.

I pretty much liked the characters of the book.

Abby: She is someone who has left her dark past to start a new beginning. She comes across as a very  naive person. Initially she avoids Travis, which made him want her even more, but slowly friendship blossomed between them but she doesn’t realize that Travis loves her..She is like clueless about it, there were times when I felt like slamming her head and telling her to see that how much Travis loves her. Eventually though see sees through it..

Travis: I loved him….i would do anything to have someone like him.he was so dedicated and loyal to the people he loved, be it abby , his family or even his roommate shepley. I loved this quality about him.
Yes he is possessive and there is also an instance when he is out of his mind and he trashes his place, but I wouldn't count him as an abusive person because a lot of people break things when they angry, its true ,it vents out their anger and stress. But he was never violent to Abby in the book like NEVER…yes he was possessive but never violent. I was very jealous of Abby.(I still am)

America & Shepley   : She was very preppy and i LOVED both of them, they were good combo. Their relationship was sweet and nice. Shepley was very supportive of travis and same goes for America, she too took her stands for Abby all the time even if it was against shepley.

The name of the book is BEAUTIFUL DISASTER its perfectly justified because their relationship was crazy..they were crazy about each other, and sometimes it was just INSANE..

Their relationship was not easy it was really intense and full of angst and jealousy. .Yes there are some things which may seem to be questionable in real life relationship and it may raise the red flags but this is FICTION, and in fiction this counts to passion and zeal. Btw who doesn’t love bad boys heads over heels in love with one special girl, at least I do….

Their relationship was not perfect, but so what. They both together bring out the best of themselves and I think that’s the beauty of a relationship. This book is a roller coaster ride, you’ll enjoy it and would be hooked to it till you turn the last page. So buy it..

Walking disaster review coming shortly.. which is from trvais POV…swooning over him…
*SWEALLLLLLLLLLL*

“I know we're fucked up, alright? I'm impulsive, and hot tempered, and you get under my skin like no one else. You act like you hate me one minute, and then need me the next. I never get anything right, and I don't deserve you...but I fucking love you, Abby. I love you more than I loved anyone or anything ever. When you're around, I don't need booze, or money, or the fighting, or the one-night stand.

“You can’t tell me
what to do anymore, Travis! I don’t belong to you!”
In the second it took him to turn and face me, his
expression had contorted into anger. He stomped toward
me, planting his hands on the bed and leaning into my face.
“WELL I BELONG TO YOU!” The veins in his neck
bulged as he shouted, and I met his glare, refusing to even
flinch. He looked at my lips, panting. “I belong to you.”
